Jeffersonian Leadership?

Reader comment on item: Bush the Radical

Submitted by OLd Possum (United States), Nov 12, 2003 at 09:40

Is Mr. Bush, for all his faults, a genuine leader? Leaders often take a country where it doesn't want to go, often where it needs to go. I didn't vote for Bush because of the oil patch he wore. But he seems to have gone beyond protecting the Mr. Lays and the Texas wildcatters. The issue I continue to stumble over is whether the Iraq incursion is a oil grab, a move to stop a budding Hitler in his tracks, or a real preventive strike essential to national (global) security. I am somewhat of the latter belief. I think Mr. Pipes' analysis of US Middle East policy is starting to reveal a strategy beyond the cold war mentality that has ruled for 60 years.

I would like to read Mr. Pipes' further analysis of "one man, one vote, one time" in the fatalist culture such as exists in Middle Eastern Islam.
