Arafat was not known to have been religiously committed, and his attendance may have been more for Suha than for any other reason. Aside from Israel, to my knowledge, the only major country in the ME with any substantial Christian population is Lebanon. Its religious stability now looks to be more of a joke as its Christian population has come under tremendous assault by radical Muslims, who see no place in Lebanon or the Middle East for non-Muslims.
