Mandelbaum
Reader comment on item: A Better World[, Explains Michael Mandelbaum]

Submitted by Martin Schulberg (United States), Dec 27, 2002 at 16:07

While in the main, the shift of wealth from government to the masses is and continues to occur and is a positive movement, I take issue with the idea that the less government interference the better. We have seen (ENRON etc.) that there must be a mixture of free enterprise and government controls that stop the few from exercizing economic contols that the individual citizen cannot be expected to combat. Power, whether it be governmental or corporate must be constrained otherwise the few will still exercise inordinate control over the masses.
