I suppose when push comes to shove the essence of my position is the US should focus on engaging non Islamists, But, at least in terms of our democracy promotion activites, engaging legally constituted Islamic parties is not possible, and our work with other parties would have no credibility if we rejected working with Islamists. So yes indeed, on some level engagement must continue, but our focus should be on promoting the counterweights to Islamists.
