Reader comment on item: A Consulate in Jerusalem

Submitted by Jerusalem inhabitant (Israel), Jan 20, 2006 at 08:09

As a resident in Jerusalem, stories come to my ears that unnecessary and uncommon long waiting times exist for those applying for visa's etc... The conclusions those stories imply is that the workers at the US-Consulate in East Jerusalem, apply racial or religious discrimination against those who request services from them. America is a great country, none but one surpass it, yet in this Consulate things are not working right. I don't understand why this situation is permitted by the US, especially since the US has fought so hard against the black mark of racial discrimination in its history.

An example of a case: a non-American lady married to an American gentleman and applied for a temporary-greencard, which took several years. It is uncommon for this process to take this long. The delay was not due to any lack of income requirements as support, but the delay lay on the side of the Consulate.
