Islam's Claim to the site of Dome of the Rock
Reader comment on item: The Prophet's Night Journey; To Where?

Submitted by Peter G Jones (United States), Jan 9, 2006 at 19:05

I have long wondered about the claim of Islam to this place as a critically important Muslim Holy Site. I had not seen your article before I came across it today (9 Jan 06). I have long since had the idea from my own readings that the claim depends largely if not wholly of the night journey, and am glad of the corroboration. The point about chronology of events is well done. It demonstrates the modus operandi that Muslims employ while insinuating passage into cultures and locales not yet part of their domain.

I have been reading in The Legacy of Jihad and in A History of the Jewish People, ed. HH Ben Sasson. Nice contrast. Page 125 of Legacy cites 18 verses from divers areas parts of the Koran on the subject of the Muslim obligation to wage unremitting Jihad. Shows that the terrorist crazies are not without support from their Holy Book.
