teaching of Islam in LAUSD, schools in Los Angeles

Reader comment on item: Congress: Stop Subsidizing Biased Middle East Studies

Why is there a course in the teachers' union newspaper each month and promoted by the Administration of LAUSD called Islam.? It purports to teach Islam to teachers who are then encouraged to teach about Islam to the students of LAUSD? I have NEVER seen a course teaching about the fundamentals of Judaism ,nor of Christianity. I would guess that the version of Judaism understood of the vast majority of Christian students is untrue, and based on practices from 2000 to 3000 years ago.

So if encouraging the understanding of of religions is the goal, then how can this policy be defended?. Also, even if the teaching of religion can be removed and replaced by the teaching of the history if Islam, then how could Islam be portrayed as anything but a political/religious movement that has caused the forced conversions and deaths of millions of people?

I read that here in California students in one community were taken on a field trip to a mosque where they were said to bow and cover their heads.
