potential knock-out punch

Reader comment on item: Romney Stumbles on Foreign Policy
in response to reader comment: Romney's knock-out punches were no "stumbles"

Oscar, the knock-out punch you imagine would be the larger pattern. I recall that Obama made a speech in Berlin when he was a mere candidate talking about the 1948 Airlift operation in a speech. As a president he did not return to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Berlin wall coming down. President Obama prefers frequent contacts with adversaries over contacts with his allies. That is the punch to make. Trouble is, Romney verbally was no better, concentrating on conflict-countries in the Middle East.

Romney's chosen weak language. "skipped" is soft. He could have said "you deserted Israel on your Middle East tour". Again, that incidental point would not hurt Obama. Passiveness alone is not explicit enough to stick with the voter's memory.
