OBAMA IS NOT IRISH

Reader comment on item: Why I Am Not Writing About Iran
in response to reader comment: There's no tellin'!

Submitted by NEIL CAMERON / 6443 (United States), Mar 22, 2012 at 18:03

DEAR THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUS,

I enjpyed your comments and found them on target. Permit me, however, to point out that though President Obama has Irish relatives on his mother's side, that his father had none, and the President got his last name from his father, not his mother. Spelling Obama as O'Bama makes him sound rather Irish, and while the Irish perhaps would be happy to claim him and respell his name to fit Irish family name customs and your usage, the President has yet to sign off on this new orthography.

KIND REGARDS,

NEIL CAMERON / 6443
