Reader comment on item: Israel's Arabs, Living a Paradox

Submitted by Chad Nagle (United States), Mar 22, 2012 at 09:56

Like all affluent democracies, Israel has watched its population - both Jewish and Muslim - grow complacent, hence the concern that the state will not address inherent dangers until it is too late. Also like other developed democracies, Israel has witnessed large-scale, left-wing, urban protests over economics, with Jews and Arabs marching side by side complaining about the cost of living and demanding a larger share of the public wealth. Israeli society is surely less complacent than its American counterpart, but is it vigilant enough to reverse the creeping dread?
