in the quran chapter 2:215 the fund for muslims is explained in the commentary as regards to charity and war

the fund declared as a defense of Muslim society in mohammed's day also used to provide for the relatives of those who fought and died or lost their homes in fighting, the upkeep of foreign fighters, and for the families of men who otherwise could not leave their homes to fight in the cause of Allah

in addition, muslims who give to the fund to be used in the war will bring good upon their families when the ravages of war come up them
