Profiling is Intelligent
Reader comment on item: A Call for Intelligent Profiling[ by Frederick Schauer]

We must look to protocols that are both expedient and that produce the effects of preventing terrorism. In this case, we must look to Israel. This nation, although much smaller than the United States, is situated in the heart of the Imperial Islamic army of terrorism, the Islamic Middle East.

Please note, I reference the myriad cells and/or organizations into one army because, in effect, the use of terrorism is organized, funded and supported, by the political heads of state and non-governmental organizations such as Saddam Hussein, Yasser Arafat, Musharaf, Saudi royal family, Muamar Khadafy along with Islamic religious leaders of Syria, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Sudan, Libya, Pakistan Saudia Arabia, Iraq etc. Monies and support from the aforementioned are funneled to various cells and/organizations known as i.e. Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Aqsa, the Talliban, Al Qaeda, the PLO, the Baathists etc., all of which have one common goal. The control and/or destruction of Western civilization and the dominance of imperial Islam.

It is the geographic location, the number of terrorists that have succeeded and not succeeded and its political makeup that make Israel the model to which the United States can learn. Although smaller than the US, the incidents of terrorism are astronomical and Israel is a prime target nation as is the United States. Although Israel is neither part of nor responsible for what happens to the United States and vice versa, we are nontheless tied by ideology, values, ethics and politics. While all liberal democratic nations are at risk, Israel and the United States are and have been targets.
Our right of individual freedoms should not be an unintended death wish nor an opportunity for an invasion of our sovereign territory by those who wish to destroy us.
A jihad as been declared and carried out upon both nations.

We are law abiding nations and the protection of our citizens is the first priority of our governments. If, said governments must wage war to protect the security of its citizens then war shall be waged. Provided in the U.S. Constitution, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." is the mechanism for profiling because it is the most expedient and, sometimes politically repugnant act a government can select in its endeavor to provide for the public safety.

In my opinion, the acts and utterances of Islamic organizations in the United States were less than stellar. Under the right of freedom of speech members of said organization can make any statements they choose. However there were no denunciations without prompting from the media or that were not qualified with the famous "but, American foreign policy has everything to do with Islamic anger." Interesting but not unconstitional neither is it unconstitutional for the government to target those who blame, come from or engage in the furtherance of the goals of the imperial Islamic army of terror.

The government's right to investigate to protect the lives of its citizens under the "Invasion of public safety may require it." This is the mandate of the Constitution. Profiling is a matter of the public safety.

The word "profiling" makes liberal democratic peoples stand up and protest that it is undemocratic. However, when it comes to war, nations must protect the lives of its citizens above all else. Both constitutional rights and mandates exist.
