Reader comment on item: Jewish Life in an Increasingly Muslim Europe

Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Dec 23, 2007 at 12:14

It seems that Europe is going through another dark period in her history with the anti-Semitic attacks, and general anti-Jewish sentiment. This brings to the foreground the increasingly large circle of hatred surrounding our entire world, not just Europe. Take note of the recent attack on some Jewish young people on a New York subway; although they were saved by a Muslim, that is only one example of decent human behavior in contrast to the usual hatred for Jews.

The wearing of a religious symbol, whether it be a Star of David or a cross, should not be reason to attack, but it seems to elicit a violent reaction to those of a different faith. I have noticed in Egypt that the Coptic people wear the biggest cross they can, defying the mainly Muslim population. There are very few Jews left in Cairo, although there are one or two synagogues left as a reminder of the past. If we keep giving in to wrongly placed political and religious correctness, the end result will be a world of no freedom of expression, the demise of anything considered decent and normal. Personally I am sick and tired of reading and hearing about these religious-based attacks on people, regardless of their beliefs, but particularly against the Jews. Europe has wrongly given in to Islam, an intolerant, self-righteous and violent religion, and someday the world will find out that bowing to it was a mistake.
