CYNICAL, NAIVE or ILL CONSIDERED?

Reader comment on item: Gaza cease-fire
in response to reader comment: Why would Hamas want a cease-fire?

Ben-David, Kuttab & Rosenberg are grasping at straws. How can anyone who's followed this struggle with the arabs and pali's talk about "direct negotiations," "easing the suffering of Sderot," and look to "agreements" with enemies who declare out front that any "hudna" is only 1] to rescue them from the jam they were in and 2] respite to rearm and reposition for the FINAL solution?

And those looking to the "Baker Commission" for solutions, better understand that this is a POLITICAL group, not military or geo-strategic. The only "military" person is former Sen. Robb [LBJ's son-in-law], who incidentally, is the only one who even put his feet on the ground in Iraq. The function of this group is to set forth a menu: a "comprehensive solution to "Israel" is atop the "Bill o Fare," with Kurdistan, Lebanon & Iran keeping it's nukes the rest of the price.

In exchange, a "fig leaf" will be produced so the US can leave without explicit Vietnam Syndrome up front. Of course, Vietnam was only the appetizer. The Turk. UN Amb. said on US TV Sun[?] that if US doesn't get things "under control in the next couple of months" Turkey will have to "go in to protect it's [Turkman] ethnic minorities. The entire world have decided that "only" one superpower is not a good thing and, secular progressive relativists and muslim fanatics have ganged up against Bush and US/Israeli interests, siding instead with Arab oil, China & the new Russian Tsar.

This leaves Israel and America extremely vulnerable, and, except for Australia and Poland, out on a limb all by themselves. Olmert, Kadima and Israel & America's Left, want to be "loved" by their "peers" in the Intn'l community; and since they have neither principals, ethics or morals, goals or experience - [except, G-d help us Peres, without whose "experience" we would do very well], they'll do anything they're told by Rice & the permanent foreign policy establishment. Myopic views of these issues will fail; Persians are reclaiming their "political" prowess of thousands of years, while waging sanitary war on 4 fronts with proxies, tying us down chasing chimerical "solutions."
