A VERY SAD SITUATION

Reader comment on item: An Iranian Nuclear Attack against Israel?

I look upon the conflicts that are going on in Iraq and Lebanon with a great deal of sadness and despair, and a feeling of total helplessness. If only the people really ran the governments! As I sit back and watch as the world leaders commit so many blunders that result in needless situations where lives are lost, I cannot help but wonder if the "regular"people in the countries, such as United States really are thought to condone the actions of our government?

I am a past vetran and I have served my country, but there are so many actions that my government has taken, that I do not agree with. Yes,I am a "regular" people, and I didn't approve of invading Iraq. I believe that there are countries who do NOT wish to be "rescued",and they DO NOT wish to be democratically governed. Too many people depend on the United States to be the worlds police force.

Please understand that I believe in defending my nation, and defending democracy in the United States, because it is our chosen form of government, and has been working for over two hundred years, but it is not up to me to impose my will upon countries that do not desire to be free.We lost over 50,000 people in the Viet Nam war,and we are quietly stacking up mare dead soldiers in the Iraq war.All we will have to show for our efforts in these two countries are granite monuments in Washington D.C.,and countless broken families across the nation!I one had hoped to visit the Holy Lands,I one hoped to visit the countries of Iraq,Iran, and Isreal, but I would be undertaking a life threatening journey to see these countries, why; BECAUSE I AM AN AMERICAN!It is not fair to the people of a country to shoulder the transgressions of its leadership!

I do support Israel in this war simply because they were fired on first, and I detest the sissy Hezbollah soldiers who will not come out and fight to the death for what they supposedly believe in,as opposed to hiding behind women and children, drawing enemy fire to the positions where women and children are hiding!I do not respect any insurgents or splinter groups who have to hide behind masks, women, and children!I guess my message to all these people would be,don't be ashamed of who you are, quit hiding and fight like a man! Also, learn how to march, you guys look like sissies!
