The Irgun Terrorists

Reader comment on item: Do Attacks on Soldiers Constitute Terrorism?

Submitted by Fred Schlomka (Israel), Apr 26, 2006 at 15:00

Livni was quite disingenuous in her remarks. The atriocities of the Irgun are well documented and well known in Israel. In the period leading up to the 1948 war they targeted Arab civilians with bombs in crowded public areas. The Ramle and Haifa bombings are most notorious where shoppers in the vegetable markets were slaughtered. No better than Islamic Jihad planting a bomb in the Tel Aviv bus station.

Even today the right wing city government of Ramle has no shame in glorifying the Jewish terrorism that led to the expulsion of 16,000 Palestinian Arabs from the city in one of the 1948 war's best documented actions, Operation Dani, under the direct orders of David Ben Gurion. The following os a quote from the Ramle Municipal web site:

"A daring sabotage operation was done by a Jewish fighter in the marketplace.
On Febuary 18, 1948 A young Jew dressed as an Arab had infiltrated into the marketplace
carrying a basket full of explosives covered with vegetables. He left the basket there and fled.
The explosion killed 7 and injured 45."

Check it out. I couldn't believe the text when i first saw it. Official Israeli endorsement of terrorism!

Pipes concluded his post with:

...That said, the Palestinians use various tactics (such as fighting out of civilian homes or using civilians as shields) that are clearly illegitimate. (April 15, 2006)

This only happens when israeli troops enter villages or urban areas. Tens of thousands of settlers also put their children in harms way through forcing their families to live in small isolated settlements surrounded by barbed wire and a hostile population. Jewish kids go to school in armored buses and most people pack a weapon. That's no way to live. Apart from politics and ideology, why endanger the ones you love? Send them to safety. Israelis can do that. Palestinians less so.
