Islam is not the culprit

Reader comment on item: Interview with Daniel Pipes

Submitted by Alan Merrill (United States), Nov 2, 2002 at 05:13

...I see no basis for any suspicion that John Muhammad felt himself a "foot soldier" in a war against the United States.

For one thing, we know nothing of the extent of Muhammad's faith. Much has been made of the fact that he converted to Islam, but little has been made public about how much Muhammad adhered to Islamic practices.

For another thing, ... I have no doubts that law enforcement officials are going over the Islamic component with a fine-tooth comb, as well as the rest of Muhammad's personal life, which ... obviously did play a role in Muhammad's descent into murder.

John Muhammad was obviously a troubled man who became a murderous psychotic; Islam is no the culprit. In any case, the proper authorities... will get to the bottom of what made John Muhammad become a killer.
