thank goodness common sense is working

Reader comment on item: Does Law Enforcement Profile Muslims?

Submitted by barbara miller (United States), Dec 28, 2005 at 11:11

I'm relieved to read that there are those like yourself that are willing to admit that common sense must play a role in the U.S. today.

Those of us who fly, as well as all others who are hoping for safe travel, expect that Muslims, who have been the cause of most all of our terrorism, are being watched more carefullly than others. Without cause, I would not expect anyone to be arrested, or prosecuted, so those that are innocent have nothing to fear.

But it would be negligent of airline staff not to remove and investigate anyone carrying razor blades on their person, knowing what we know today, or anyone who behaves in an unusual fashion like remaining in the bathrooms on take-off. As you often say, ARE PEOPLE AWARE THAT WE ARE AT WAR WITH TERRORISTS?

We must use every precaution to protect the innocent for as long as we can. So what if people's feelings are hurt, or they feel they haven't done anything purposely. Until we check it out, they will have to allow us our sensitivities and our precautions for the safety of the people of our country.

If and when the Muslim community speaks out, and professes to love America and our values, as most other groups do, then perhaps, we will feel a little less threatened by some of their behavior, such as praying at a football game. But meanwhile we must be EXTRA cautious while this war is on!

Thanks for reading my thoughts,
Barbara Miller
