Reader comment on item: The Paranoid Style in Mideast Politics

Although it can't be as puzzling as claiming that Muslims hate Americans becouse the latter are luckier in terms of freedom and lifestyle, your comments are, in the least sense, telling only half the truth, only the half that would serve your purpose of course.

If I want to comment on every paragraph, this would make a very long article, especially that I, as a Middle Eastern citizen, disagree with most of what you mentioned.

However, I do agree about the conspiracy theory being very popular, not to the governments of course. Things in the Middle East would be much better if they were, as this would make the governments closer to the people. It is the entire population, both anti- and pro-American with much proof to back it up.

I shall give you an example: try telling the former occupants of Jenin, in the West bank, that, although it was American-made arms that destroyed their homes and killed their children, America is acting in their best interest. Try convincing the hungry children in Iraq that the Blockade against Iraq is for their own good.

Most important, explain to us why was the US so interested in aiding Kuwait against its ever so "evil" neighbour, when the same thing does not apply in the West Bank and Gaza? And why did the US Ambassador in Cairo publish an article in the local newpapers stating that the government (of Egypt) should not let journalists say as they beleive in their own newspapers, regardless of whether that was the journalist's point of view or not?

As a matter of fact, I find your article quit misleading, and this is my personal point of view, which is very common in this part of the world...

Thank you for your time.
