Dear Dr Pipes,

It will be worthwhile explaining my position about Turkey's NATO membership to HGE. My concern about Turkey's membership in NATO arises from a few observations about Islam and Muslims. First, I think, religion and politics are very significantly intertwined in the Islamic doctrine. Second, while most other people have adopted a little relaxed view of/about religion, Muslims are still very uptight about their religion. Third, like all Islamic societies, Turkey is over 90% Muslim and, thus, lacks diversity.

Combining these three things, though I admire that Turkey is constitutionally secular, a severe change in one or more of the above three facts has to happen before Turkey can become like other nations of the NATO community of the nations.

Canada routinely elects Muslim and Sikhs as legislators, London has a Muslim mayor, A Hindu came very close to becoming the PM of Britain, Muslims continuously demand for democratic rights in the NATO member states. This kind of behaviors, I would like to see in Turkey before I can like Turkey's membership in NATO.

Hope this explains
