Manichean worldview encourages paranoia

Reader comment on item: Conspiracy Theories Keep Polio Alive

Submitted by Dave (United States), Aug 22, 2022 at 15:34

Islam encourages the idea that the world is divided between believers and unbelievers, good and bad. Islamic eschatology envisions a day when the whole world will be Islamic. Unfortunately, that is not the case yet, far from it. How to explain this predicament of apparent divine disfavor? It must be due to the unbelievers' perfidy; they just don't play fair. This provides an entree to outlandish conspiracy theories. Here are some good ones:
-Various birds species banded by naturalists have been accused of being Israeli spies. (Evil genius bird brains)
-A GPS tracking device found on a shark off Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, led to accusations of spying. (watch out for that wily Jewish shark, Oy Oy Seven).
-Similar encounters with tracking devices on dolphins off Gaza have led to spying accusations by Hamas. (the dolphins who came in from the cold?)
-Mahmoud Abbas of the PA accused Israel of releasing wild boars to destroy Arab crops. (kosher swine sabateurs, how ironic)
-A similar accusation about crop-destroying armies of Israeli rats was leveled by Dr. Bakr Al-Abadi on Jordanian Prime TV. (Jewish Willards attack!)
The polio vax paranoia is less amusing as it threatens everyone's health. It's an example of collective delusional thinking potentially undoing years of hard work.
