Remembering Turkiye Today is NOT Attaturk's Turkey of Yesterday

in response to reader comment: Turkey in NATO

One really does need to review the more broad investigation that Dr. Pipes has been conducting regarding Turkiye as it has been morphed from the more secular governmental model of the years after Attaturk brought results of a western style of governance, all but now gone since Islamist Erdoğan's takeover and progressive Islamization in order to return Turkiye to its former glory as the Ottoman empire he seeks to revive.
From all appearances, remaining in NATO is like invading a prospective field of conquest, initially merely maintaining a foothold, eventually absorbing more territory (politically) until the final declaration of Islamic conquest is able to be made. Look at where these dictates have alreadyh been made: Cypress, Greek Islands, even Jerusalem has been mentioned; there is no limitation once it is believed it can be achieved.
Dr. PIpes' perceptions are not misplaced: this ambition of empire cannot be overemphasized as the same ambition is being expressed in Russian terms and it is not impossible they may meet in the Middle (East, that is).
