Effects of a Bad Reputation - Islam Suffers for Its Own Intolerance

Reader comment on item: European Islamophobia Report 2020

Submitted by M Tovey (United States), Mar 16, 2022 at 12:22

Islamophobia exists for one reason only; in this day and age of multiple attempts to bring Islam into a modern context after centuries of Ottoman and other Muslim endeavors to maintain relavance after the fall of Islam in Ottoman terms; such relevance cannot be regained in the old terms and that enrages sensitive religious feelong that used to be satisfied with bloodletting if met with resistence.

What used to be religiously acceptable attacks on non-conforming sectors of opposing religions are now considered acts of war, extreme acts of incivility towards normal civil populations. Islamophobia exists because the ancient reputation serves to make people aware such attitudes are not normal social attitudes in a modern world of tolerance. As long as they try to hide the attitudes of Türkiye's ambitions for a revived caliphate, there will always be Islamophobia.
