Misunderstanding Diversity in Cultural Appropriation - Invasion Versus Immersion

Reader comment on item: Making Culture an Element of Immigration Policy

Submitted by M Tovey (United States), Aug 17, 2021 at 14:30

The societal misinterpretation of Western style democracy versus democracy of the ancient Greco societies is blatantly in view as Afghanistan replays the same rejection of western style societies as has been seen since the fall of the Ottoman caliphate and the various resurgent attempts to reinstitute Islamically based cultures in the face of decidedly anti-oriental mentality, one thought a bastion of European dominance in the attempts to 'modernize' Middle East societies after both world wars. Does is not seem impractical, since after two major world wide incidents and multitudes of lesser conflicts, none of it works? The orientals are laughing now. The occidental are in disarray and trying to recover; but where is the strategy of strength now?
Does assimilation make any sense now?
It never did in history; why would it now be any different? There's a reason secularism always interferes......
There have always been clues, but who's listening now?
