Religious Inflections of a Secular Kind

Reader comment on item: Interview: As Iran Approaches a Nuclear Breakout

........"when a state achieves nuclear weapons capability as a fait accompli............;" is this so close that it cannot been seen even from a politically myopic point of view?
All of Dr. Pipes' observations have validity, but the apparent intentions are that until the proxy missiles are tipped with tactical theater nuclear warheads, there is nothing more to be said?
Ballistic nuclear capability is for deterring the United States, not for the tactical threats to overwhelm Israel, a circumstance that is always in the background as Israel attempts the impossible of securing democratic stability in the face of multiple fronts of attacks coming as an onslaught to defeat that security.
The status quo is anything but the status here, even as everything is other than secure; and Israel is losing ground with all of its own internal insecurities.
Salvaging any form of democratic governance is now approaching critical mass as it is becoming increasingly apparent now not all aspects of the Jewish nature of the Jewish state are consistent in being Jewish. Once that is lost (infighting about Orthodox/Haredim versus reform leading to internal schismatic inflexibility), they might as well give up and become secularistically 'Palestine,' just like the Romans imposed all those years ago, you know; before Islam confronted Romanistic attempts of a revived Roman empire.
