Reader comment on item: A Short Conversation with Daniel Pipes

This interview is helpful in looking at how the world is changing in front of our eyes and the stress of not knowing where things might lead is driving many to distraction at least; if not in overtures that are causing such an overwhelming sense of loss, but where to turn does not present itself all that easily. The Doctor's observations about some critical aspects in the Middle East follow certain assertions of how many would like to see some decision making that would lend to minimizing much of the hostilities that are fuming in various sectors of the Levant, and points north, south, and east. However, as much as we would like to take some solace from a moderated approach towards all the actions and all of the potential actors following disparate plans of actions, it is hard to think that any such efforts towards solving any of the issues may ultimately end in vain. Too many things are already at the edge of no return.
Understanding that all things in the Middle East revolve around the unsolved perplexities of dealing with Israel, nothing proffered or offered in the way of keeping Israel safe is actually thought by many, if not most, to be valuable; Israel's friends can be counted on the right hand, with two fingers crossed. Islam, of course, is the dark and large shadowy figurehead of most of the antagonistic attitudes which are controlling all the sympathetic diatribes sent against Israel. All of Europe is also inclined to keep Israel at least contained, if not emasculated. Israel's many attempts to keep the enemy off balance does nothing to soften such enmity, usually having a reverse effect. But Israel is left with no choice where survival is concerned.
All of the Doctor's points are to be understood in view of the changing dynamics of a world system now paralyzed, with fears of pandemic paranoia and with little intelligent direction of how to get things back to normal; if even that is possible. It is suggested here that normalcy will need to be redefined. That being so, then the expectation is that now is the opportunity to advance alternative forms of bringing a new social order into view, just as many have thought and written about in recent, if not modern history. The Doctor's view of Turkey brings no sense of being a modernized nation as once was envisioned by Attaturk, the return to the attitudes of Turkey's former domination by the Ottoman Empire is more and more in view here. Once the skirmishing in Syria is abated, all actors there are already looking south towards Israel and what to do about the pressing issues and claims there. Turkey already has missions in operation, waiting for the right moment to line up with the other actors.
Now to the opening comments about America's distractions, politically, America may have a capable defense plan in place to deal with issues around the world, but very few nations are willing to claim friendship with the current Administration as they perceive the losses of old agreements by which they thought they had a handle on the compromises conceded by previous administrations. It is even worse that America is found to be one of the central targets of the pestilence precipitated upon the world by Chinese malfeasance and apparent complicity by a United Nations organization to keep the entire world off balance as less than honorable actors are keeping pressure on the carotid of the world's economy.
And finally, to the closing comment surrounding the struggling religious situations, most noticeably directed towards the evangelical Christian enclave and the resurgent Jewish congregations of all conservative and reformed persuasions. Actually, if the truth of the Doctor's comments were peeled away, it would be easy to see that all of the world's convulsion are related to how one desires, or does not desire, to have a spiritual relationship with the Judeo-Christian God. America's strength was once foundationally set to be the witness of that relationship; but its apostasy is now upon the world. That being the case, then the world's focus is now understandable as Israel remains the target of the ultimate fear.
However, the world seems to be saying: what do we have to fear? Does that comport to what the good Doctor is saying?
