Reader comment on item: Why I Just Quit the Republican Party

Submitted by Jordan Montgomery Lewis (United States), Jul 21, 2016 at 16:18

Dear Mr. Pipes,

Is this wise? Can we really afford to lose this election?

If we help elect Trump, for all his faults, we have a better chance of getting Supreme Court justices nominated of some sense. All of the other candidates for President lost the Republican nomination. It was not even that close. I voted for Rubio, who lost badly. Now I'm over it.

In light of Scalia's absence, and since Breyer and Ginsburg are the next to go, your willingness to hand over generations of our society to Hillary Clinton's Supreme Court appointees seems grossly negligent, even perhaps a knowing act to destroy the country. The enemies are at the gate, but since you disagree with the current leadership, you'll open the gates to the enemy from within.

This all seems a bit Pharisaical. You want to see the country destroyed, just a little bit, so that everyone will see your point proven. You want your righteousness to be seen by all of those who failed to heed your wisdom.

You think you're this guy:

Proverbs 1: 24
Since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 "Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me,

But you're this guy instead:

Proverbs 16:
25There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.
28 A perverse person stirs up conflict,
and a gossip separates close friends.

Don't be that guy.

Thank you,
