Israeli exposure in gas deal with Turkey function of composition of pipeline consortium

Reader comment on item: An Israeli Gas Pipeline to Turkey? Bad Idea

Submitted by Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA (Israel) (Israel), Dec 21, 2015 at 01:39

Granted Israel has an exposure that Turkey might somehow opt out of the Israeli gas at some time in the future, but it is most certainly possible for the composition of the consortium responsible for the very expensive pipeline from Israel to Turkey (and those providing the financing) to be such that Israel could sink a fleet of Marmaras and the gas would continue to flow.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Yes, that is possible. But it's highly unusual and I assume the Turks will not agree to this because they want to be free to pull out as they wish.
