Dictatorship has many faces

Reader comment on item: Turkey Is on the Path to Rogue Dictatorship

Submitted by Charles (Netherlands), Oct 27, 2015 at 05:52

I'm afraid that Dr Pipes has nailed the situation in Turkey pretty well. Turkey has changed for the worst in the last decade. As a European (Dutch) I can see what is happening in Turkey quite up close. In Europe alone, the Turkish diaspora is the largest outside Turkey itself: 10 milion. And the Turk authorities keep a keen eye on these people. Erdogan has commanded that these people may never assimilate in the European culture. He sees them as forward outposts of a greater Turkey. Erdogan is not only a dictator, he's got bigger plans still. This man is dangerous in every sense of the word. And he's an islamist. Here in Holland, there are about 400.000 Turks. Most see themselves as Turks, not Dutch. Most see the islam and the sharia as more important then the Dutch constitution. Most hate jews, homosexuals and do not support human rights regarding women. It's all researched and factual. You see it right through the entire Turkish community in Europe. Let alone Turkey itself! Turkey is sliding down islamic dictatorship and the European Union as the United States stand by, watching it happen.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Glad we agree. But the figure of 10 million Turks in Western Europe strikes me as about double what the number actually is.
