Reader comment on item: Islam in the West

Wonderful interview, because Rachid asked questions penetrating critical purposeful and incisive. He had, in other words and agenda, and was well prepared knowing, especially that he is to interview someone with the stature of Dr. Pipes.

I believe Dr. Pipe's distinction of "Islamists" and Islam went over the head of Rachid. The terrorists, Islamist to Dr. Pipes, perhaps, but reciting quotations from the Qur'an while in the process of killing the enemy are followers of Islam. That's what Islam does, notwithstanding a strained and tortured distinction between "forms" of Islam. The West , a cultural divide, may make a distinction, intellectually, but a Muslim knows Islam better.

Another probing question had to do with the future of the power their money provides. Intelligent Muslim do worry what will be the power they now enjoy as fortuitous beneficiaries distributing "Petrodollars" like children casting rose pedals along the aisle at a wedding reception. Alternative energy is a Muslim worry.

I think Dr. Pipes ought to have made it forcefully clear they any hopes of conquering America, even in bits of pieces will be impossible. I will say with conviction that Sharia will never supplant the constitution--or the constitution of any other western country and the sooner the soldiers of Islam come to understand that the sooner will we all take our breath and relax--the civilization differences are non negotiable. Muslim nations will adopt a democratic constitution before the day ever comes for western nations to be governed by the laws of Sharia. The magic of modern secularism trumps religion over time.
