in response to reader comment: Turkey Furtively Helps ISIS

"Residents fleeing Kobani (a Kurdish town in Syria, at the Turkish border -- currently under attack by ISIS) said the militants were executing people of all ages in villages they seized. Kurds are mostly Sunni Muslims but Islamic State views them as apostates because of their secular ideology. It has persecuted and killed Shi'ite Muslims, Christians and members of the ancient Yazidi sect as well as moderate Sunnis who reject its stark version of Islam.

"Turkish security forces are now trying to keep Kurds from crossing the frontier to aid their brethren. At the Mursitpinar border crossing, a line of paramilitary police stood guard along a barbed-wire border fence."

Turkey is thus openly helping ISIS to crush the Kurds of Kobani. This help is anything but "furtive". The main Kurdish group opposing ISIS is the PKK, which Turkey (and the US; but the latter is de facto allied with PKK) lists as an outlawed, "terrorist" group.

By attacking the Kurds, ISIS has shone a light on who is really on whose side in the Fertile Crescent. Turkey is one one side (with ISIS), and the rest of NATO on the other. When Obama and the other NATO leaders finally acknowledge this, it will be a day of rejoicing for frankness.
