Solving a problem is tougher than just recognizing it

Reader comment on item: Hating Geert Wilders

Submitted by Doug Mayfield (United States), Mar 23, 2014 at 14:07

I'm not familiar with Mr. Wilders' speeches and writing, but it sounds as if he recognizes the fact that for anyone in a free country, immigrants are a problem without a clear solution.

If one values freedom and individual rights, how does one reconcile the conflicting ideas of 'those who want to leave tyranny behind to come to my country and work hard to build a new life for themselves and their families' with 'unassimilated hordes who show up to sleazily enjoy the benefits of the welfare state and then demand, vote for, the same sort of socialist-fascist-Islamic tyranny to which they were accustomed in their native land'?

The real problems are the welfare state and a lack of assimilation to Western values. it will take a lot of time and hard work to find solutions.
