The first US Consul in Jerusalem was a convert to Judaism. The consulate is embarrassed about that.

Reader comment on item: A Consulate in Jerusalem

Submitted by Joshua Fox (Israel), Mar 7, 2013 at 03:17

The first US Consul General in Jerusalem was Warder Cresson, a convert to Judaism.

The history page in the Jerusalem consulate website used to include a description of their own founder as a "madman."

After I wrote several letters to the Sec. of State, they simply deleted any mention of him.

My blog post on the matter is here.
