Socialism v. Capitalism

Sara - perhaps I was not fully clear. The "new" democrat I describe is very pro-free enterprise and entrepreneurial.

This is not a choice between capitalism and socialism. Every person who's looked at history knows that pure socialism as implemented by Russian and China - undermined Man's drive for achievement and betterment. But that doesn't mean we should let the private sector run wild. Clearly, unbridled capitalism creates monopolies, mafias and market chaos. That's why we need a balance between market driven economic activity and a partnership with government (the people). Government is there to help smooth out blips, redirect energies and research, ensure a social safety net and to prevent abuses and excessive centralization. Together we're better.

On this front - the economy and social issues..the democrats are on the money.
