Tough call

Reader comment on item: "Better Elected Islamists than Dictators"

It is indeed a tough position to be in to have a hand in deciding whether despotic corrupt cruel dictators are preferable to corrupt religious fanatics. I say at least the despots are approachable and do not subscribe to Sharia law and anti-western sentiment. That said, it is not an easy position to rationalize. We all want freedom for these people and human and equal rights, but this is not in the cards for them. The trouble is that neither of the choices moves them forward.
