Dear Dr Pipes:

When you choose to include some people and exclude the others, you cannot be a great leader. To be a great leader you need to choose to lead all people and not just the people who are believers, who have the skin of a certain color, or follow a certain religion. It is because of this reason, most Islamic leaders rule themselves out as great leaders. Period.

Both in priciple and in practice, the Islamic doctrine exhorts the Islamic leadership to advance the cause of Islam and treat all others under a different scale. So no Islamic leader --and no person who chooses to advance an exclusionary cause-- can achieve true greatness. The same applies to Z A Bhutto.
