Reader comment on item: Analysis of the Israel-Palestinian peace talks

Submitted by Jay1 (United States), Sep 6, 2010 at 19:35

Everyone wants peace. That in and of itself is not a noteworthy statement. We live in a generation that forever reason, cant look, listen, an get to the right place.Ours is a generation that goes from bubble to bubble, living fot the moment, and avoids the reality of the situation.

Real Estate is an example.Stock and bond markets are an example. So too are the worlds deficits. We dont see well and hear even worse. We are having trouble with the words look and listen. As Israel and the Palestininans begin negotiations, this is what the landscpape looks like. Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb, and comming close. And they will use it on, at least Israel.Syria has funneled 50,000 rockets into southern Lebanon-Hezbollah, totally breaking the cease fire treaty. And Lebanon- Hezbollah want to use it on Israel.

Both the UN and the US do not have the stomach to rid Iran and Lebanon of these truths despite their proceedures and promises. The Palestinians have no respect for the comprimise language or the spirit of UN resolution 242, and Hamas(Palestine 2) is armed and sent a deadly reminder card near Kiryat Arba a few days ago.If this negotiation exercise is about focusing on the Palestinians, let it more focus on Israel.Israel is entitled to better, enhanced and secure borders.Israel is entitled to a military border at the Jordon River. Israel is entitled to a demilirirized Palestine as their neighbor and a re-demilitirized southern Lebanon to its north.Palestine is for Palestinian immigration,Israel for Jewish immagration.Jerusalem is mostly Israeli but not totally.Unfair you say?Unfair? Let me phrase it another way.Palestinians are entitled to about 85% of what they want in a beautiful state,a state in their history they have never had. And if not for Israel, the Negev would be part on Egypt, the Gallilee part of Syria, and the rest divided between Jordan and Syria.

For all these reasons,I suggest people really look and listen. The Palestinians should be grateful to have Israel as their close neighbors. Its the reason we're even talking about a Palestine. And Israel, oddly, the country that has saved the Palestinians for a Palestine, is entitiled to retain the ability to live.
