Reader comment on item: Will Israel-Palestinian peace talks be successful?

Submitted by Peter Herz (United States), Sep 4, 2010 at 21:57

I cannot see how this round of talks will succeed when all others have failed. The Chinese say that you can't bargain with the tiger for his skin; and that's what the Israelis will realize what is going on --they being the tiger whose skin the PA wants.

Further, the Falastin Arabs have a very large rejectionist faction in Hamas and other organizations. These will surely derail talks by shooting rockets, more murders like the recent ones, and the Israelis will have to break off talks. To save face with his own people, Abbas will have to do the same.

Further, I suspect the talks are just a ploy to negotiate aid out of the USA.
