RESPONSE TO 'MARK' FROM THE U.S.A.

Reader comment on item: The Beltway Snipers' Motives
in response to reader comment: Forgive your enemies.

Well, Mark, your sense of self-inflicted justice---should you commit some violent atrocity in a shopping all some day---is quite commendable but it does nothing to negate the ludicrous nature of the story that is at the core of the Christian belief system. An invisible yet perfect being up in the sky whose origin is a totally unexplained mystery decides to will into existence the entire cosmos. Then he decides to deliberately make a species of people who are flawed (why not just make the perfect, aye?). Then he commands them to be better than they can be and punishes them for not being able to do so. Not only that, but if they 'don't believe' in him he will send them to a miserable place called Hell for all Eternity.

And why is he doing this?....because he "loves" us, that's why. It's all mind-boggling in its sheer irrationality. And, yes, it is possible to cherry pick verses from the Bible. But the people doing the most cherry picking are the followers of Christianity, that's who......you know, priests, ministers, etc. The whole belief system is centered around death, guilt and the concept of sin. If that's what you want to commit your life to, have at it. But you can count me out. - D.R.
