No other moderates?

Reader comment on item: Radical Islam vs. Academic Freedom: One Example

Submitted by Steve Hess (United States), Apr 29, 2002

While many applaud your brilliance and insight, I am also most impressed with your courage. It takes a lot of guts to do what you do.

On another thought, am I the only one who shakes his head is disbelief at the commonplace use of the term "moderate" to decribe any Muslim cleric who is not screaming for the death of Jews and the destruction of Israel (and the West)?

How come we never hear about "moderate rabbis," "moderate ministers" or "moderate priests"? Could it be because extremism is a characteristic of Islam but largely alien to Christianity and Judaism in the 21st Century?
