Deep Concern

Reader comment on item: But He Was Good to His Mother

Submitted by George (United States), Dec 6, 2003 at 10:12

Your article is worrisome. I don't exaggerate if I say I am confused. How do I tell if my Arab neighbor is an Islamist or an Islamists' sympathizer? Keeping low threshold of suspicion towards any Arab or Muslem would further isolate the "streamline" moderate ones, whereas other ethnic groups and immigrants are welcomed to join the big American melting pot!

Daniel Pipes replies:

Your question raises a legitimate issue, one which I have touched on several times (such as http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1009 and http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1195). Here, let me just say that this is a problem that is best dealt with through discussion and debate, not through - as is the case now - averting attention.
