Israelis have become too comfortable

To Daniel Pipes, in Response:

Israelis have become too comfortable, too much like the rest of us in the West. The pioneering spirit of Zionism has disappeared, replaced by a Welfare State patterned on Europe and expanded beyond reason and economy.

The world may support the Jewish State when it is beleagured and beset by its traditional enemies. But a militarily capable and economically affluent Israel is no longer seen to be of any concern of, nor needing protection by the West.

In fact, I see a re-emergence of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish speech and writing. Jimmy Carter's intensely anti-Jewish writing in his current Book and TV appearances immediately come to mind.

Israel's Universities, their Scientific and Engineering and Medical accomplisments which far outpace the West, have not produced the at-home Powerhouse economic engine it had promised. That Technology has been transferred to the West by Licensing for quick profit, but for little long-term home-front gain for its people.
