Reader comment on item: Rashid Khalidi's Appointment at Columbia University

Submitted by pinchas (phil) baram (United States), Sep 9, 2003 at 01:08

Dan, kol hakavod to you.. in general, and in regard to your savoir-faire and showing aplomb when rashi khalidi tried to twist and turn. but next time consider calling the kettle black-- i.e., he says ideologues like Wolfowitz are driving US policy--- and so, what is he, khalidi, pray tell, a non-ideologue, like Edward Said perhaps??

Another thing: I don't think you should have put up with his putdowns of you--- " I don't want to answer questions from the likes of Daniel Pipes." Next time stick it to him-- well, I don't think much of you, either, mr. professor---though with your attitude there will never be dialogue between Jew and Arab, will there?-- is that what you want??

Finally, a comment: I read that you said ,after the President appointed you to the US Peace Commission, words to the effect that you will be more careful in what you write from now on, lest (I presume) politically correct Democrats like Mass.' bumbling Ted Kennedy see you as provocative. My reaction was, I hope Dan is not going to mince words, become "domesticated,", and forsake his role as independent researcher and commentator. Again, good wishes, Phil Baram
