I consider myself an expert on the teachings of Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi--I have read may of his books and essays--and I consider him to be the single most radical Islamist, past or present, Sunni or Shi'a.

The fact that one of his disciples was allowed entry into Canada is absolutey insane. Left-leaning Mennonite political groups have maintained contacts with him, mostly in their own visits to Iran, through an institute in the city of Qom run by Ayatollah Taskhiri, who runs an interfaith center that brings together antiSemites from all religions (including Jewish ones, like Neturai Karta). Even in Iran, other radicals have repeatedly denounced Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi (there are fewer of them than there used to be, if you know what I mean).

Nonetheless, it is heartwarming to know that Canada's Muslims have spoken out forcefully and repeatedly against Islamism.

One last point, though, is that this latest incident in Canada illustrates what I feel is a trend that has gone largely unnoticed--it seems that those Islamists who pose most often in the West as "moderates" turn out to be the most violent of them all! This trend can be seen in the additional cases of Sami al-Arian, Ali Abdelsoud Mohammed, Abu Qatada and Tariq Ramadan.
