Reader comment on item: Is the road map still relevant?

Submitted by Ernie Lofthouse (United States), Jan 17, 2007 at 19:48

I continue to be astounded by this and past administrations, to continue to believe that the Arabs including the palistinians, have any real intentention of both recognising and wanting peace with Israel.

The sole goal of the arabs in that region has and is a total elimination of the nation of Israel, period. There have been periods of peace in between conflicts but that has only been to retool for the next time. And now we have the emergence of the the Iranian nucular capabilities which i believe in the end they will use on Israel. And the belief after the loss by Israel to wipe out Hezbollah, that they the Arabs are fully capable of defeating Israel in all out confrontation.

Add to that mix this administrations insane idea to arm and train the palistinians. In a region that is so volatile, this act has just ratcheted the condition even higher. This administration is totally blind to the realities, they are being driven by the so-called moderate Arab countries and domestic politics. President Bush to his shame is putting at risk our only true ally in the entire middle east. I would like to add here that Ehud Olmert by his policies is also as guilty as anyone in the possible demise of his own country.
