The importance of telling the Truth!

Reader comment on item: Death and Exile: The Ethnic Cleansing of Ottoman Muslims, 1821-1922

Submitted by John Allen (United Kingdom), Dec 8, 2005 at 09:32

Its a delight to see that open minded, educated and well respected Westerners not stooping to telling lies, promoting propaganda and hatred against innocent people just because they happen to be Muslim.

This is a fantastic account, as a proud American who visists Church every Sunday I am happy to see my fellow people not living up to the stereotypes often associated with us and ignoring the suffering of people of other faith's.

It is thanks to honest approaches to these matters that we can win back the respect of people worldwide and live up to the real American name of spreading justice and equality.

What happened to the Muslims of the Ottoman Empire during this period was a tragic, awful affair. They suffered what can only be described as a genocide and shamefully we have tried to forget this in the West. We must realise that these innocent people suffered so much during the last century and due to our total ignorance of this and attempts to not listen to their side we are only causing a problem and in-justice to ourselves.

I hope Mr. Pipes paves the way forward to telling the objective truths of what has happened and is happening to people worldwide.
