A Terrible Nexus: Islamic minority and liberal democratic politicians

Reader comment on item: The Demon in Liberalism

Dear Dr Pipes, The conservative government of India last week passed a law that would make it illegal for Muslim men in India to divorce their wives merely by uttering the word 'talaq' or divorce three times. This practice was allowed in India (for Muslim men) even though India is a Hindu majority democratic nation. This news was important enough for a lot of western media to pick and report on. While reporting this news many media sources also reported that the practice was already banned in many Islamic majority nations like Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The question arises how come the practice was not banned in democratic India until now while it was already banned in Islamic theocracies. Is India more backward than even Islamic theocracies. Any sane mind will know that such is not the case.

But the existence of the practice of triple-talaq in India exemplifies the negative effects of the nexus between liberal politicians and Islamic fundamentalists. Until the current conservative government took over the reign in 2014, India was ruled by Sonia Gandhi's free-for-all liberal congress party. Congress lovedto divide and rule and create vested-interests and vote banks. And who can be a better vote bank than Muslims? They vote as a block for the advancement of Islam. They also make partnerships with liberal politicians to win special favors. In India under Congress rule it was difficult to pass a law that will go against Islamic interests. India subsidizes Hajj pilgrimage, allows Muslim men to marry multiple times, allows government grants to go to Islamic sectarian schools, closes schools routinely on Fridays for mass Muslim prayers, and until this latest law was passed allowed Muslim men to divorce their wives by texting 'talaq talaq talaq' to them.

This is the danger that Islamic minority and liberal politicians bring to us all. This is the danger Linda Sarsour and Ilhan Omar may bring to the US.
