First there was hatred of Israel, then came the Palestinians

Reader comment on item: Tectonic Shifts in Attitudes toward Israel

Submitted by Andrew Schonberger (Australia), Dec 27, 2018 at 00:15

Dear Sir,

you make an assertion that concern for Palestinians motivates all denuciation of Israel. Having watched the contortions of the Left over decades, I would say it's the opposite. First, Leftists (Jews prominent among them) felt a deep hatred towards a nation-state of the Jews. Palestinians showed up later, as a convenient symbol of the Left. There is plenty of evidence to show that the Left is more motivated by hatred of Israel than by any genuine intention of improving the lives of Palestinians.

Regards,
Andrew Schonberger

The Left was pro-Israel until the Palestinians replaced the Arab states as Israel's main enemy..
