Reader comment on item: Forty Years after the Invasion of Cyprus
in response to reader comment: product of a failed culture ???

Are you saying the people of North Korea can live where they want?

Are you saying that anybody can just move to Australia, Canada, The USA or the UK?

As an Australian, living in a prosperous country I am very fortunate to be able to travel extensively, as I have done. And my passport grants me entry without too much difficulty to most countries. I do not take this for granted.

The lifestyle I am afforded here in Australia, is not solely the result of my work and effort, but that of my forefathers and the people that built this country before me. I am happy for you, that you are successful, and have the ability to travel too, however that does not change the fact that the Ottomans never really valued Cyprus. As the Ottoman Empire no longer exists, any claim to Cyprus has about as much credibility as if the UK suddenly claimed to want it back. The past should be left in the past.
