Reader comment on item: The Muslim Brotherhood's Place in Islamist Politics

Submitted by Plamen Ivanov (Bulgaria), Sep 2, 2014 at 16:43

Dear Mr Daniel Pipes,

With rregard to your "The Muslim Brotherhood's Place in Islamist Politics":

I, who am not good expert on islam, would like to put a question.

It is known that Turkish political Islam, Islam movement, AKP, their government, etc are related to the Muslim brotherhood.

Then, what in Turkey could be called / named "Islamism" , "Political Islam" , "Rooted in Islam..." since all are used reg. Turkey.

Kind regards,

Plamen Ivanov

Daniel Pipes replies:

I don't agree that the AKP comes out of the Muslim Brotherhood. That's precisely my point, that autonomous movements develop in various regions and should not all be traced back to Egypt.
